Charlie Roth

About

Charlie Roth is a movement coach whose journey began with a deep fascination for physical disciplines from early childhood. With formal education in Physical Activity and Sports Science and specialized training in Movement Techniques, Charlie's approach transcends traditional physical education boundaries.

After completing his studies at INEF (National Institute of Physical Education), Charlie sought teaching methods and physical development approaches that would encompass the body in a more holistic and integrated way. His learning journey combines self-directed exploration with invaluable guidance from inspiring teachers including Ido Portal, Joseph Bartz, Fighting Monkey, and Tom Weksler.

Charlie's teaching style reflects his diverse background in gymnastics, martial arts, and athletics. Rather than adhering to a single discipline, he focuses on developing general movement capacity, exploring how the body can move in all sorts of different ways. His expertise particularly shines in what he calls 'floor communication' - the art of relating to the ground through various movement patterns, from crawling to rolling.

In his classes, Charlie aims to share his learning journey by providing pathways and tools that promote freedom of movement, both physically and mentally. His teaching emphasizes exploration, curiosity, and the development of new movement vocabularies, making complex movement patterns accessible to practitioners of all levels.

Conditioning & Weight Shifting

New
Join Charlie for this essential conditioning session designed to prepare your body on a muscular level through quadrupedal movement patterns. This session focuses on weight shifting, body awareness, and building strength in various support positions.

Starting in an all-fours position, Charlie guides you through progressive exercises including forward-back and side-to-side weight shifts, circular motions, and single-limb support challenges. The session advances to two-point support positions and concludes with dynamic weight shifting from squatting positions.

This practice develops proprioception, core stability, and the ability to support yourself efficiently while moving. Charlie emphasizes careful attention to weight distribution, breathing, and treating the floor like "thin ice" - developing control and awareness in every movement.

Perfect for building foundational strength and preparing the body for more advanced movement practices. Modifications are offered throughout to accommodate different fitness levels.

Full Body Warm-Up Flow

New
Join Charlie for this advanced movement session that merges crawling patterns with floor work into flowing sequences. This practice combines the vocabulary from previous sessions to create fluid transitions between standing, crawling, and floor-based movements.

Charlie guides you through sophisticated transition techniques including shin box entries from squatting, bear crawl to sitting transitions, and complex sequences that flow from crawling into floor work and back up again. The session builds toward a complete sequence featuring the "roulette," back star, forearm rolls, and seamless transitions.

This practice develops movement fluency, spatial awareness, and the ability to communicate with the floor through various body positions. Charlie emphasizes controlled descents, momentum management, and finding flow between different movement worlds.

Prerequisites: Complete the Crawling Patterns and Floor Work sessions first. This builds on established movement vocabulary and requires familiarity with the component movements.

Perfect for intermediate practitioners ready to explore complex movement sequences and develop true movement flow.

Understanding Floor Communication

New
Join Charlie for this foundational floor work session where you will learn to move gracefully in sitting and lying positions close to the floor. This practice emphasizes fluidity, control, and developing a soft, flowing quality in your movements.

Charlie guides you through detailed progressions starting with precise hand placement techniques, moving through shin box transitions, and building toward the signature "back star" and "forearm roll" movements. Each movement is broken down systematically, focusing on smooth pathways and eliminating any pushing or forcing.

The session culminates in a beautiful sequence combining the back star and forearm roll, followed by exploratory tasks that encourage creative movement within specific constraints. Charlie emphasizes the quality of "melting butter" or "flowing lava" - seeking minimal muscular effort and maximum fluidity.

This foundational session provides essential vocabulary for the Floor Communication practice and develops your ability to move gracefully and efficiently close to the ground.

Perfect for all levels seeking to explore ground-based movement with precision and flow.
